Peace is Golden

The golden temple (Namdroling Monastery) in is truly awe inspiring, and the huge main hall inspires any person to a moment of shocked and jaw- dropping silence. The three 58ft, 60ft and 58ft tall statues respectively represent -
  1. Buddha Amitayus - The Buddha of long life
  2. Buddha Shakyamuni - The founder of Buddhism
  3. Guru Padmasambhava - Guru Rinpoche - He was born 12 years after the passing away of Buddha on the Lake Danakosha, in the land of Oddiyana (present day Afghannistan & Pakistan border). he is considered to be an emanation of Buddha Amitabha.

The paintings on both sides of these 3 statues depict the 25 disciples of Guru Padmasambhava. The statues are made of copper and plated with Gold. Inside the statues are scriptures, relics of great beings, small clay mould stupas, and small statues that symbolize the body, speech and mind of the buddhas.

Morning Raga

It was a cool hazy morning in Coorg, The Scotland of India and i got up early to catch a glimpse of the rising sun. The place that I stayed is called Veerabhoomi and for those who want to understand and catch a glimpse of Karnataka and the culture, this is the place to be.

Falling for you

The name is Abbe Falls and this place is in Coorg, the scotland of India. I have been to this fall earlier during monsoons and it must have been carrying 10 times the volume of water that it was carrying at this time. However, it still has a great view and above all its the approach to this fall (which passes through a private estate) that adds a bit of suspense to the whole experience. Go and check it out yourself....

Perspectives

This was taken from under the bridge connecting mainland with the island at Nisargadama in Coorg, Kodagu District, Karnataka. This island was formed as a result of River Cauvery splitting into two parts and then rejoining beyond this island. This place is a must-see for visitors coming to The Scotland of India, Madikeri (a.k.a. Coorg). Check out the map of this district.
