Peace is Golden

The golden temple (Namdroling Monastery) in is truly awe inspiring, and the huge main hall inspires any person to a moment of shocked and jaw- dropping silence. The three 58ft, 60ft and 58ft tall statues respectively represent -
  1. Buddha Amitayus - The Buddha of long life
  2. Buddha Shakyamuni - The founder of Buddhism
  3. Guru Padmasambhava - Guru Rinpoche - He was born 12 years after the passing away of Buddha on the Lake Danakosha, in the land of Oddiyana (present day Afghannistan & Pakistan border). he is considered to be an emanation of Buddha Amitabha.

The paintings on both sides of these 3 statues depict the 25 disciples of Guru Padmasambhava. The statues are made of copper and plated with Gold. Inside the statues are scriptures, relics of great beings, small clay mould stupas, and small statues that symbolize the body, speech and mind of the buddhas.

Morning Raga

It was a cool hazy morning in Coorg, The Scotland of India and i got up early to catch a glimpse of the rising sun. The place that I stayed is called Veerabhoomi and for those who want to understand and catch a glimpse of Karnataka and the culture, this is the place to be.

Falling for you

The name is Abbe Falls and this place is in Coorg, the scotland of India. I have been to this fall earlier during monsoons and it must have been carrying 10 times the volume of water that it was carrying at this time. However, it still has a great view and above all its the approach to this fall (which passes through a private estate) that adds a bit of suspense to the whole experience. Go and check it out yourself....

Perspectives

This was taken from under the bridge connecting mainland with the island at Nisargadama in Coorg, Kodagu District, Karnataka. This island was formed as a result of River Cauvery splitting into two parts and then rejoining beyond this island. This place is a must-see for visitors coming to The Scotland of India, Madikeri (a.k.a. Coorg). Check out the map of this district.

Falling for it

This is not a natural water fall, but the highest man-made waterfall standing (or rather falling :) ) from 30m +. You can catch this inside the Waterfall Aviary, Jurong Bird Park, Singapore.
You can actually take a Park Hopper ticket and see Jurong BirdPark, Singapore Zoo and Night Safari at one go.

The Cotton Sack

As they say - "Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it" and how true this is. Flying at 36000 ft and enjoying the cotton spread across the mother earth, one feels like capturing this view forever.

Setting over the edge

The setting sun at Sentosa Island, Singapore. Do you know that this island did not have beach sand and so sand was imported from Australia and artificial beaches were created. The island is a wonderland weekend spot and one can spend an entire day playing with Dolphins, enjoying the under-water world, hopping from one beach to another and of course enjoying sumptuous food.

Bum Boat Ride - Modern Vs Traditional

This snap was taken from a Bum Boat in Singapore River (you can see another one in pic too) with the Central Business District of Singapore in the background. You can catch a boat from Raffles Point. The amazing structure that you see on the left is Esplanade - Theatres on the Bay. It contains a 1,600 seat concert hall and a 2,000 seat theater for the performing arts.

Soaking the Sun

My idea of a vacation is to be on a tropical island- Relax, Soak, Sleep, See & Rejuvenate. This is one of the beaches in Langkawi, Malaysia. The distant hill is the place where you can take a cable-car up the hill.

Blue & Gold - Colors of the Night!

A beach resort in Langkawi - a perfect place for a perfect vacation. Langkawi is an archipelago of 99 islands in the Andaman Sea, some 30 km off the mainland coast of northwestern Malaysia. Langkawi Island has recently been re-branded to "LANGKAWI GEOPARK" to better reflect the island's recogition by UNESCO as a World Geopark (on June 1, 2007).

Dinomania

Did i tell you that i had a close shave when this dinosaur caught be by my right hand. I did manage to pull out my hand though. You want to catch him, catch him at Genting Highlands. Well there is more to this place than only dinosaurs.

The Twin Towers

The Petronas Tower is the second tallest building in the world. It lost its status of being the tallest building in the world in 2004. The tower in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia is a must see for all tourists. There is a shopping complex called Surya KLCC below the towers and it contains almost all the apparel brands in the world.
